NOTTINGHAM 12TH OCTOBER 2013*
2013 will again see the MH Survival Series travel to cities in Wales, England and Scotland for the Tri-Nations Series, followed by two jaw-dropping finales in Manchester and London. National pride is at stake as we invite Survivors from across the Land to front up to the challenge. Notts is where it all began back in 2008 and this has always been a popular event, with nearly 5000 participating in 2012. Do your bit and answer the call for Olde England!
*Nottingham Date: Please Note
Our Nottingham Event is based at the superb Victoria Embankment and utilises Nottingham Forest’s City Ground as part of the course. Every year we must wait until the Football fixtures are announced in mid-June to 100% confirm the date for Notts. In previous years, it’s always been clear of Home fixtures however we can never confirm this until we have sight of the fixture list in the summer. If we do have to re-schedule the Event due to a Home game, we will of course let you know as soon as we do. If you have booked to take part and cannot make the new date, we will transfer your entry free of charge to any other Rat Race event of your choice. Please click here to read our transfer and refund policy for further information
The event village for 2013 will again be located at Victoria Embankment next to the River Trent at Trent Bridge, just outside the city centre. From here you can just about see 3 stadia - all within a square mile of you. There is the legendary Trent Bridge cricket ground just over the bridge; the Notts County ground around the corner and of course the Nottingham Forest stadium - which you will be coming face to face with later, during your adventure. The River Trent itself will wind its way with you through the course. At the event village, you will have access to specially arranged parking on the Embankment and you are only a short distance from the city centre shopping and nightlife. The event will start and finish at Victoria Embankment, beside Trent Bridge.
The 2013 Nottingham event will be run on predominantly the same course as the 2012 event. The course in general follows the River Trent out of the city and back in again. Highlights on the route include Nottingham Forest Football Ground and the National Watersports centre at Holme Pierrepont, where you’ll get a serious dunking. Along the way, our obstacles litter your path. In 2013, expect more obstacles and tougher obstacle zones as we continue to stretch the challenge of Survival.
All this Survivin’ is thirsty work. We will be building a superb beer tent at the event site once more. As well as having the course actually running through it for bar-side entertainment on a par with darts and skittles, will be serving up ice-cold beer and real ales too. The beer tent will be open until you are all safely home. If 2012’s innings is anything to go by, we’ll be needing to talk to the nice man at the Brewery to set aside a good few barrels, as you decimated the beer in 2012!
Notts is situated slap bang in the middle of the East Midlands and is really handy for road travel. You can get into town from junctions 24 - 26 of the M1. Derby and Leicester are really close and Birmingham is just over an hour away. Allow 3.5 hours from London. Don't underestimate the traffic on the M1 - it is ALWAYS busy in this area.
Our events take place in some great locations but the standard of parking facilities is variable in standard and capacity. Due to the popularity of the events we want to want more of you to have the chance to come along and this means managing the car traffic. Therefore, subject to venue requirements, Rat Race may need to enforce parking fees of up to £5 per car at some locations.
This would be payable only by cash on the day. These measures will be used to achieve the following benefits to your event experience:
-Encourage car sharing hence increasing parking capacity in the best spots and reducing pollution.
-Improve traffic management measures so less queuing in your car.
-Contribute funds to bad weather contingencies on grass parking areas so you don’t get stuck.
Be prepared and help us help you: Come with cash, car share, come early, know how to attach your vehicles towing hook. Precise information will be published in the pre-event emails we will send you.
Please be considerate: Cars that park in restricted zones and cause barriers to traffic flow and safety vehicles, such as surrounding roads, will be ticketed and/or removed at owners’ expense
Direct connections from London St Pancras to Nottingham will have you in the centre of town (and a 20 min walk to the event village) within 2 hours. Good connections get you to and from the East coast main line at Grantham and Newark and the Cross country routes can be accessed easily with connections via Derby and Sheffield.
East Midlands airport is very close to Nottingham and a regular bus service takes you from the terminal to the city centre for a fiver every 15 minutes.
There is plenty to choose from in Nottingham. From super stylish options in the city centre, to budget accommodation and magnificent out-of-town country house hotels, there is a good deal of choice. Try www.visitnottingham.com for a full run-down of options, plus superb info on what's on around town and in the surrounding countryside.
We'll see you in Notts for SOTF 2013. Bigger, badder and bolder than ever before
